Racing to the Bottom at Different Speeds

چکیده
Scholars often assert that intra-state competition increases the ability of firms to extract tax abatements by playing local governments off of one another. We test this proposition using data on the more than 5,000 tax abatement agreements signed in Ohio between 1983 and 2004 under its enterprise zone program. We articulate a political economic model of tax abatement generosity that models the interplay between the individual decisions of local governments and firms and the systemic political and economic forces shaping their decisions. Wfind that as intra-state competition increases, local governments offer larger abatements to firms. Rural governments, and urban poor governments to a lesser degree, significantly increased their generosity as intra-state competition increased.

Objective: Aim of this study was to analysis the ankle moment-angle relation and its characteristics at different gait speeds and phases for using in prosthetic ankle-foot design. Materials & Methods: This was a cross-sectional analytic study in which 20 participants were chosen with assessable sampling method. Gait analysis at different speeds was performed with two force-plates and five hi...
متن کاملChanges in Energy Cost and Total External Work of Muscles in Elite Race Walkers Walking at Different Speeds
The aim of the study was to assess energy cost and total external work (total energy) depending on the speed of race walking. Another objective was to determine the contribution of external work to total energy cost of walking at technical, threshold and racing speed in elite competitive race walkers. The study involved 12 competitive race walkers aged 24.9 4.10 years with 6 to 20 years of expe...
متن کاملCommon injuries in athletic horses at riding clubs in Tehran, Iran
Various forms of intensive sport place stress on the musculoskeletal system of the horse, during both racing and training. The musculoskeletal system of the horse has an inherent ability to adapt to the demands of high speed exercise, but exceeding the threshold of adaptive capacity may result in some form of damage. Continuing racing or training may delay the repair process and put the horse a...
متن کاملRunning performance has a structural basis.
The body sizes of highly adapted human and other mammalian runners vary in accordance with specific performance needs. Sprint specialists are relatively massive and muscular while endurance specialists are conspicuously limited both in body and in muscle mass. We hypothesized that the greater body masses of faster specialists are directly related to the greater ground support forces required to...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Viscoelastic Ankle-Foot Prosthesis at Slow and Normal Walking Speeds on an Able-Bodied Subject
Objectives: This paper describes further improvement and preliminarily evaluation of a novel viscoelastic ankle-foot prosthesis prototype. The objective was to control the ankle hysteresis at slow and normal walking speeds. Methods: Inspired by the ankle biomechanics, in which the hysteresis differs based on the gait speeds, a manually damping control mechanism imbedded in the prosthesis for...
